Students must undertake a minimum of 120 logged working hours within an Approved Service which will allow you to complete a range of applicable work tasks. If students are not currently working for a suitable facility, students are encouraged to locate their own work placement locations. We can assist you if you have any difficulties.
Students will be provided a Practicum Booklet that will detail the tasks to be completed and log the work placement hours. The Trainer/Assessor will visit each student in the workplace to assess the skills required in this qualification.
Police clearance and vaccination requirements
To work in an aged care or disability environment you will be required to have police clearance and, in some cases, up-to-date vaccinations.
Vaccinations will be based on the work placement’s policies and their compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards and Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements. As a minimum you should be up-to-date with your flu vaccinations, other immunisations that may be required are for Covid-19 and Hepatitis B.
If we have sourced work placement for you, we will advise what the vaccination requirements are. Students sourcing their own work placement should enquire about vaccination requirements with the facility they are planning to work for.
The requirements around vaccinations and evidence might change while you’re studying with us. Changes will be in line with industry requirements and/or Australian Immunisation Guidelines.
