    If you want to find fulfilling, financially-rewarding work in a sector that’s growing quickly, a career in aged care ticks all the boxes – and completing the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is the first step in your journey.

    This entry-level course teaches students essential skills for aged care work to successfully support older people with their independence and well-being. Our experienced trainers empower you with the specialist knowledge required for care work, so you’re set to enrich the lives of your clients while you enrich your own through working in this deeply rewarding sector.

    The course duration is 6/12 months, although it is competency based, meaning some students may reach the required level faster than others and complete the course in less time.

    As for salary, aged care workers in Queensland earn a competitive salary ranging from $65K to $83K per year on average. Once you’re qualified, there are extensive employment opportunities across Australia, giving you plenty of room for career growth.

    After you finish, you’ll be equipped for jobs helping older people manage their lives based on their age and health condition. You can also progress to further studies in the care sector using this course as your foundation.

  • Entry into the Course

    There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, although it’s preferred that students have obtained a Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent. 

    Students are required to provide a current National Police Certificate before starting care work and may need to provide proof of vaccination against the Flu, Covid-19 and Hepatitis B (see the Work Placement section). 

    Student Selection 

    We want to ensure all our students are enrolled in the qualification that best meets their needs. The student selection process considers various factors when deciding who to offer a place on a course, including: 

    • A students’ needs and desired outcomes 
    • The ability and commitment of the student to complete the course 
    • Eligibility requirements listed in the applicable National Training Package 
    • A students’ existing ability in the ACSF core skills, (learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy) 

    Students not meeting these requirements will be directed to more suitable qualifications or skill development programs. 

  • Student Selection Process

    Our student selection process is designed to ensure that you are enrolled in the qualification that best meets your needs. The selection criteria take into account various factors when deciding upon which students will be offered places in the program including:

    • Eligibility requirements listed in the applicable National Training Package

  • Work Placement Requirements

    Students must complete a minimum 120 logged hours in a work placement within an Approved Service, completing a range of relevant tasks. This can be done in their current workplace if applicable or in another suitable facility.  

     Logging your tasks 

    Students are given a Practicum Booklet which details their task list. It is also where students log their work placement hours.  

    Choosing a placement facility 

    Students are encouraged to source their preferred placement facility themselves, for complete flexibility on who it’s with and where. Collaboration Learning will then support students by coordinating with the facility on all the paperwork and placement requirements. 

    We have an extensive network of employers who support student placements, and this can be made accessible to students if required. 

    Assessment methods 

    A Trainer or Assessor visits each student during their placement to assess the required skills for this qualification in a live working environment. Assessment methods and conditions include various assessment tools, multiple choice, short answer questions, case studies/projects, and practical skills assessment. Assessors also conduct workplace observations to assess the student’s practical skills while on placement. 

    Police clearance and vaccination requirements 

    To work in aged care or disability support, you are required to have police clearance and, in some cases, up-to-date vaccinations for flu, Covid-19 and Hepatitis B. 

    If we have sourced work placement for you, we will advise what the vaccination requirements are. Students sourcing their own work placement should enquire about vaccination requirements directly with the facility.

What is Recognised Prior Learning?
Collaboration Learning recognises that some students have had previous experience and learning whether that be working in the industry or completion of a previous course of study. 

We are happy to discuss Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) with students. Each student requesting RPL will be interviewed and they should provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application and may be assessed on the job. On-the-job assessments can be conducted to assess current skills and knowledge.
What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) number is a unique number that is allocated to students studying nationally recognised Vocational Educational Training (VET) in Australia. This is a government initiative that enables you to access all of your training records and results from one location allowing you to provide proof of qualification to any potential employer. What is the Student Assistance Program?
The Student Assistance Program is dedicated to providing new and existing students free and confidential counselling services to help with their mental health and well-being.

As a joint initiative with AccessEAP (which also runs our Student Assistance Program), Collaboration Learning aims to help students address an array of life challenges, ideally before they become distractions that affect home life as well as studies. The service will provide access to a dedicated counseling hotline available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and 3 complimentary face-to-face counseling sessions.
